Personalized Yoga Therapy

YogaVahini offers highly specialized and individualized yoga sessions designed after a consultation with one of our expert yoga therapists. Your practice will take into account your abilities, current health conditions and requirements, and time available for practice. It will also be monitored and modified progressively according to your changing needs.

Our classes for healing and self-mastery are offered one-on-one unless the situation requires the spouse, parent, or caretaker to participate and support.

Our approach to yoga therapy

YogaVahini approaches yoga as a complementary system of health, not an alternative one. It supports and works in conjunction with your normal medical treatment and personal health routine as suggested by your doctor or medical professional. YogaVahini will tailor your practice for your medical condition and proceed through a gentle orientation.

Whether yoga can cure your condition can be only decided after a consultation. Yoga most often works in tandem with Allopathic, Ayurvedic and other healing systems to facilitate deeper healing. In the case or chronic conditions, yoga strengthens the individual’s ability to manage the condition and lead a better quality of life.

What to expect from your yoga therapy class

1. Consultation

• Book your appointment preferably a week ahead by filling the form on the left, calling us (98846 42456), or via email (yogavahinichennai dot gmail dot com).
• During the consultation, a senior yoga therapist will meet you and assess your needs and problems and prepare an appropriate practice schedule.
• The therapist or another teacher assigned by them will teach your yoga classes.

2. Classes

• Senior therapists regularly monitor the classes to ensure that you are completely taken care of.
• All classes are on a one-on-one basis.
• Your first class will be taught on the same day as the consultation or soon after.
• Your teacher will prescribe a practice for you to follow everyday at home.
• A review class is offered within two to three days to make sure you are comfortable with the practice and clear any doubts.
• You will continue to meet your teacher once a week for three months.
• After this, we strongly recommend you take at least two classes per month for the next three months so that your practice is strongly established.
• However, the gap between classes and the minimum number of classes you will be required to attend will vary based on your feedback, progress, and needs.

Yoga practice is not like taking a pill. It has to become a way of life. Therefore please continue to practise and upgrade as you progress. This is important because, as human beings, we are always changing and our needs also change.

3. General instructions

For in-person classes:

• Please arrive at least five minutes before your class is scheduled to start.
• If you cannot come for your class, please inform your teacher or leave a message at the front desk well in advance.
• Wear comfortable, loose-fitting garments (preferably cotton in Chennai) for classes and home practice.
• Allow a gap of three hours between the last meal and your class.
• If you have diabetes or low blood pressure, eat something light before class.
• Your practice is specially designed for you taking into account your unique needs and abilities. Please respect your body and breath during your practice.

For online classes: Please use your laptop/iPad to attend the class. If you use a smartphone, make sure it has a stand so you can place it in a way that the teacher can see you in different positions. Please ensure the space around you is uncluttered, well-lit, and peaceful as far as possible.

4. Guidelines for home practice

• Home practice must be done once or twice daily, as advised by your teacher or therapist. Regular and consistent practice is essential for achieving sustained results. The very experience of the practice serves as motivation for regular practice.
• A morning practice may be different from an evening practice. Please check the timings with your teacher or therapist for best benefits of yoga therapy.
• Use a carpet or mat for all seated, kneeling, and supine movement sequences.
• If you have certain back or knee problems, use a cot for seated, kneeling, and supine postures.
• Use props as recommended by your teacher.
• Any prolonged pain or discomfort for more than a couple of days after starting a new practice may indicate a need for change. Please seek the guidance of your teacher or therapist.

Yoga practice must change periodically to adapt to changes in the system, changing needs, and goals. A good yoga practice must progressively lessen effort and improve efficiency. Changes at deeper levels – physiological, mental, behavioral, and emotional – indicate progression and evolution.
